Front-end Development 1

Sep 2020 - Nov 2020

We started our first semester strong with an introductory course in the program languages HTML and CSS. Programming is an essential skill to have while being a multimedia designer. It gives you the freedom to build the creations that you had in mind and make them a reality. Before this course, I never had any experience with any programming languages which made me a bit anxious at the start of the semester. Luckily, we got an amazing professor that broke down the material step by step, so everybody was able to keep up. During the course, I started to notice that I started to enjoy the course and was able to pick up the material faster than expected. After weeks of typing small codes and playing fun games to fuel us with information, it was time to end the course with an assignment.

For this particular assignment, we got the opportunity to program our own website about any topic that we were interested in. The goal was to implement as many HTML and CSS elements in your code as possible to be able to show that you understand the material of the past weeks. In my code, I implemented elements such as forms, navs, and lists to create my website. During this process, I found myself mostly struggling with fitting in the images with the right dimensions. With the help of a student assistant, I was able to fix that, and I got to pick up some more coding tricks along the way. This course left me with more confidence and a fun new skill that could be very beneficial as a digital designer.
